Walking my way into writing

Well, my PhD is finally done and dusted and the hardbound copy handed in. A strange beast the creative writing PhD – a melding of praxis and gnosis: experimental writing functioning as research and then a writing-up of the experiment.

I had a great opportunity of talking about my collection of short fiction The South Westerlies at the PhD methodology workshop at Swansea University recently. I titled it Walking my way into writing as walking, especially psychogeographic methodology, has been central to the making of the stories and has acted as a creative catalyst for subject matter rooted in my place of Gower.

The workshop seemed to go down well – especially the black and white imagery of Gower taken by my husband www.philipgriffithsphotography.com whose pictures really do tell stories and were tonally perfect for the mood of the collection and a reflection of real Gower.

I will miss the study, but the great thing about the CW PhD at Swansea University is that former students are always welcome at the methodology workshops which are a great platform for cross-fertilisation of ideas across all genres.

Now on to the hard task of trying to get the collection published.
